I just realized that SF has the park open from 3/17-3/21 for spring break, but most of the universities (UT system, A&M system, Tech) and nearly all of the schools here in Austin have the 10th-14th off. What happened there?

I believe the public schools planned it that way this year for two reasons:
1) Schools were required to start a week (or more) later in August than in previous years.
2) To include the Good Friday holiday with Spring Break because Easter is early this year.
This is just my theory but I know the requirement to start school late in August by the legislature changed the calendar is alot of districts. It also moved our last day of school into to June. :(

You better enjoy having those 2 and a half to 3 month breaks while you can, because once you enter the work force, there is no off time for summer, all you get is 2 weeks, and that is if you have a decent job.

Just in case you were speaking directly to Kristi, I thought I'd let you know that she is a grown person who is in the work force.
Obviously teachers and school administrators will often have the same 'vacation' periods as their students (not all of course, but many). My mom was a teacher and elementary school Assistant Principal, and except for the years she worked summer school and was an Asst. Principal, she had those breaks as well... and used the time to do some of the traveling she always wanted to do. The point being, we can't automatically assume that someone who has 'school vacation' periods is a student, who hasn't yet joined the regular work force.
If your post was intended for anyone in general who may not be in the regular work force yet, that's great... it just wasn't clear in your post because it quoted Kristi, and the term used was 'you' (as opposed to "all of you", "you guys", "you all", etc.).
It is a little strange this year, for there to be two different spring break weeks (depending on a person's location). My step-son is one of those who's break is this week (college) instead of next week. I'm glad my grandson's spring break coincides with FT's 'spring break' operation... that sure would have put a damper on his visit, to be here during a week in which the park wasn't open! lol

You are right about it being strange, the university system usually has the same Spring Break week that we do (most of the larger ones anyways).
And thanks for mentioning that I am one of those people in the work force--I have been for 20+ years.

I was being general about it, some kids think life is hard that they have to be in school til june, but then they get until late august off, I wish I had it like that, over at my job we get 17 days a year off, I think thats awesome for me, At my old job, we only got 5 days.
