View Full Version : Site looks lousy in IE

Why hasn't anyone ever said anything to me about it?

I looked at the site using IE for one of the first times the other day
in a while and there are all sorts of problems. Some pages are aligned all the way left, some are centered (they should all be centered), some the footer bar is 80 pixels high and messed completely up, some of the gray bars at the bottom of stuff (bottom of the white body of the page) is messed up, the png fix is gone, among other things.

It's difficult for me to test the website for these type of blemishes & mistakes because I use a Mac and am constrained to the browsers that will work with OS X (about everything and more EXCEPT IE). The site is utterly flawless in Safari, Firefox, Opera, Camino, etc. but the majority of the site users (something like 90%) use internet explorer. The only way for me to test the site for IE compatibility is to use a website rendering service to get a screenshot (most don't catch anything and you can only see the first 600 pixels of a page) or use windows natively (I'm now running a XP virtually -- although it kills me to have windows on my mac). It really wouldn't be a problem if IE just learned how to read code correctly, namely DIV's and CSS like modern web browsers do.

It's partly my fault for not checking, but you guys have to speak up if you see something wrong and it isn't fixed quickly. It's very easy for things to go unnoticed. I don't think I've really ever had anyone report a problem with the site. I/we don't bite! And we really appreciate any emails regarding the website (OK-- you got me there, good emails). I don't care how busy I am, I'll do what I can to make the site better.

I've made some changes to the site today fixing some of the problems that I've noticed, mainly the footer, the majority of the alignment problems (which involved me redoing some of the pages), reimplementing the png fix, among others.

There are some pages I still need to get to:
Search
Local Accom
Entire Special Features section
For the kids
Shows
.. I think that's it. Let me know if I forgot any.

I'm not so sure that any of us here use IE. ;)

I for sure don't. And this would be the reason, everything in IE looks... lousy.

83.26% of our visitors use IE. I'm sure some of you guys are using IE! ;)

And I agree with you saying everything in IE looks lousy. I for one, after using a Mac, hate seeing websites without text smoothing (or using a browser that barely recognizes DIV's). Text smoothing just makes everything look better IMO.

Good to see you posting again, Keith. Seems like its been a while since I've seen you around here.
