OK, so we've talked about SFFT and Sea World and Schlitterbahn. But, being a north Texan who works his way down there with his family at least once a year, I would be interested in knowing what ya'll think are some of the other top attractions in the general San Antonio area, and what are some of the traps to avoid.
I'll start with the Mercado, a neat place to visit and maybe pick up some cheap souvenirs. My kids loved the little marionettes for $5.
I would avoid Wonder World in San Marcos at all costs, however. Tried it once, never again.
Your thoughts? B)

Don't forget the Riverwalk, one of the great things to do there and one of the symbols of the city.

We've been to both the Riverwalk and the Alamo on previous trips and I also wanted to mention the San Antonio Zoo. Old fashioned? Yes, but also nicer than the Dallas zoo, at least the last time we were there. Still can't top Fort Worth, though. The problem is, you don't want to go to a zoo in the middle of July, for several reasons.
Anything else? We are thinking about Natural Bridge Caverns/Wildlife Ranch next year.

It's about an hour or so north of SA, but I would say the Colorado State park between Marble Falls and Burnet in the area known as the Texas Hill Country. I have some relatives who live near Marble Falls and in Llano, so I go there at least once a year.

I really enjoy driving through the hill country; I route I take SH 16/I-10 from Llano to SA going through Fredericksburg and Kerrville -- it's one of my favorite route to drive though, because the scenery is just great.

Sounds nice. We're getting a new(er) car this fall, one which we might trust a little bit more to make some side trips. Unfortunately, our time is always pretty limited and we have to jam in as much as we can all at once.
Typically we do Schlitterbahn on the way down, then after checking into the motel we hit one more attraction (usually Fiesta Texas, but sometimes the Riverwalk or historic sites) that evening.
A quick dinner and swim and we are usually done for.
The middle day is reserved for Sea World and the third day is set aside for either another trip to Fiesta, or to hit whatever new spots we can think up.
So, like I said, next summer we'll probably do the caverns, but I'd like to maybe visit the Longhorn museum (used to go there as a kid and loved it, because it was so campy).
Our first trip we ever made as a family I convinced my wife and son to go with me to the then-Aquarena Springs in San Marcos, another place I loved when I was younger but which when we arrived had seen better days.
(Now it is the, I think, Aquarena Center or something like that.)
My wife ended up getting sick on the glass bottom boat and my son freaked on the submarine/diving pig thing.
Haven't been back since.
Sigh, the good old days ...
:D
