View Full Version : How Soon Before We Find Out?

So, how soon (long) do you think it will be before we start hearing about the new stuff, if any, for the coming year? They've already announced a coaster for Six Flags Georgia, so maybe it won't take too long?

Well, we already heard about Goliath at Six Flags Georgia, now this was announced today (Wednesday):
Six Flags Great Adventure, the World's largest regional theme park, will soon announce the details of its dramatic 2006 expansion plans. Those plans call for a "monsterous" wooden coaster to be constructed.
The announcement will include an enormous, record-breaking wooden roller coaster -- the park's first new wooden coaster since 1978. One of two newly-themed areas - the park's third section devoted to children - will focus solely on families with exciting pint-sized adventures for the littlest thrill seekers.
More details will be available on September 28th.
I am growing concerned that SFFT or SFOT may be left out of the loop, so to speak, again, when it comes to new stuff this year. It is especially troubling for Six Flags Over Texas, which will be celebrating its 45th anniversary, apparently without a major addition. Granted it is still early, but you would assume if we were getting something in Texas ... something new and not Astroworld leftovers ... the word would have come down already or, hopefully, we will hear something very soon.

SFoT already got a ride in 2001. SFFT has not had one in a very long time. Maybe this year will be good years for both parks. A new ride at all would be good. Even if it is from Astroworld as long as its not a kiddy ride or an SLC. But back in the area by JR, they could easily fit a nice new ride there but lets just hope we actually do get something new.

It would be nice if Texas or, shoot, this end of the country would get something new.
Take a look at Six Flags Great Adventure, Magic Mountain or Georgia. All have received MULTIPLE coasters since 2001.
Meanwhile, like SFFT Freak pointed out, SFOT, the flagship park, the one that started it all, gets 1 coaster in the past four years. The park is celebrating its 45th anniversary next year and there has been absolutely no word on whether it will get anything new.
In fact, the only news for Texas so far has been, hey, were closing Astroworld!
How much of an insult would it be if, for a major anniversary, SFOT gets an Astroworld cast-off?
Before Astroworld closed, we had three parks in Texas alone that had gone for years without a new coaster.
Take Titan out of the equation and the drought is even more pronounced.
Now, add in Six Flags New Orleans and, heaven help us, Frontier City and you can see how it appears the southern half of the country has been sorely neglected.
While coasters, including supposedly state-of-the-art coasters like Kingda Ka, are being handed out like candy on Halloween to the east and west, the five (now four) parks in this part of the south do without.
I mean for poor Frontier City, it has been what, a dozen years without a new coaster? And the company headquarters is NEXT DOOR?
Part of the problem is we have no real theme park competition in the state, save for Sea World. Six Flags isn't competing against Disney, Paramount or Valley Fair in Texa, Oklahoma or Louisiana. Never mind that we have three of the largest population centers in the country in Texas, though. The prevailing logic appears to be that the Lone Star folks will always be there
Here is how I see it breaking down. SFFT perhaps gets an Astroworld coaster. Six Flags New Orleans (who knows how soon they may reopen) probably gets a Astroworld coaster as well.
SFOT gets maybe a couple of flats, likely from Astroworld, while Frontier City also gets one or more coasters.
Kentucky Kingdom, St. Louis and Elitch Gardens divvy up most of what's left.
Granted, any improvement at any park is welcome. It just hurts when it appears the eyes of the powers that be are constantly looking elsewhere.
Sorry about the rant, but I just feel we deserve more.

Our park did get the Eruption (S&S Sky Sling) in 2003, which seems to be our key thrill ride and a very popular one; also we were going to get the Excalibur had it not been for its deteriorating condition. With any luck, the possible distribution of rides from Astroworld might shake things up for many parks including our for next year. We'll just have to wait and see.

Allow me to clarify my earlier rant.
SFOT also received Wile E. Coyote's Grand Canyon Blaster in 2001.
So that makes two coasters in Texas since 2001. Add Superman Krypton Coaster in 2000 and that makes three in a state of 11 million plus people in the past five years.
Other parks since 2001:
Great Adventure: 3
New England: 2
Magic Mountain: 4
Over Georgia: 4
Great America: 4
Marine World: 3 (although Greased Lightnin' is still in storage)
Elitch Gardens 2
New Orleans: 2
Six Flags America: 1
Fiesta Texas: none since 2000
St. Louis: none since 2000
Darien Lake: none since 1999
So, of the 13 domestic Six Flags parks (not counting Frontier City), eight have received the same number or more rides as the three parks in Texas received combined in the past four years.
If life was fair, then SFFT, Darien Lake, St. Louis and America would be the next in line to receive some state-of-the-art coasters.
Obviously, life (and Six Flags) is not fair.

Six Flags Great Adventure just announced it is getting a mammoth new wooden roller coaster, El Toro, plus a new playland.
Sigh.
So that brings my revised totals, since 2001, to:
Great Adventure: 4
Magic Mountain: 4
Over Georgia: 4
Great America: 4
Marine World: 3 (although Greased Lightnin' is still in storage)
Elitch Gardens 2
New Orleans: 2
Six Flags Over Texas: 2
New England: 2
Six Flags America: 1
New England: 2
Fiesta Texas: none since 2000
St. Louis: none since 2000
Darien Lake: none since 1999
So much for spreading the wealth.

Jeepers. We need a coaster that goes 0-80 mph in 2 seconds, Has 10 inversions, and goes straingt down through were the opening at the top of the scream. Comes under ground, gets stoped by block brakes then a set of tracks apear above you and then you go from a sit down coaster to a inveted coaster. Then you go up a vertical spike (similar to Deja Vu's) then get launched backwards 0-80 in 2 seconds through the whole circuit.

As soon as you ride it, assuming you survive, report back and tell us how it feels. B)

I was referring to the Six Flags parks only. Even so, a kiddie coaster is hardly the state-of-the-art attraction which will bring in the crowds.

That is true. If we do get a SFAW Ride it should be greezed lightning or SWAT. IMO
