Boy are they everywhere. Don't plan on washing your car anytime soon...

Yup.
I read the large amount is due to the weather. It is crazy though. They are just everywhere!

Today was the first day I noticed it. I came home for lunch and there were quite a number flying around the tree next to our apartment. However, when I got back to work and was walking up the sidewalk next to the hedge, what had to be 100+ began flying around me.
It's weird though... they don't really look like butterflies in terms of having beautiful patterns and colors. They were all a rust-brown color and all the same size. It was apparent that they weren't moths (at least I assume they weren't), yet not like a "normal" butterfly. Course, I've never seen a butterfly when it first emerges from the cocoon, so I don't know what they look like at that stage.
It was something though. First time I've seen that in my life, and I'm 42 and have been in South Texas my entire life.

When I was in first grade they were everywhere. Mostly worms before they went into the cocoon stage. I even saw one spinning a cocoon once.

Ok.. starting to notice a few up here. They seem to swarm in packs on the roads. Although I was in SA yesterday, I barely noticed any. Moving north maybe?

Well, maybe one group of the "family", but not the entire population! They are still quite thick here today (in SA)... today is the first day I've noticed that some are larger and different shades of color. Before today all I saw were same size (small) rust-colored ones. Today there are those as well as yellows and oranges too. In some areas it's like driving through a cloud.
It's really something - certainly not something we see "every day".

I mentioned this in my trip report, but we encountered them EVERYWHERE in New Braunfels/San Antonio, huge swarms. My 7-year-old daughter, who is a butterfly freak, was in heaven.

Really? I was in SA on friday, don't think I saw a single one. Who knows, maybe I wasn't looking.

Yup, I noticed them at our tennis match today. There was quite a lot.
Oh yeah, we beat Madison. Just thought I'd throw that out there. ;)

Yep... didn't happen until the weekend. We didn't begin seeing them much until Monday... now they're EVERYWHERE.

Alright, they're up here now. Seems like they tend to flock towards my car when it is in motion :(

My neighbor said that butterflies come when in times of drought. Remember the drought in late july and august? Its back. TUM TUM TUM.......
