Default Kentucky Kingdom Closing

Looks like Six Flags shut down Kentucky Kingdom, effective today, due to high lease payments. It says they are going to remove the rides, hopefully Fiesta Texas will get some of them .

Still very sad to hear for all the locals in louisville, and to lose a Six Flags park.

Sad news but it's probably for the best. I don't know if there's actually anything from SFKK that SFFT would want in the park. Who know's where Chang is going for sure since no formal announcement has been made but that's wishful thinking. :-) They could always bring in Chang and work the angle of "The only Stand-up Coaster in Texas".

Very sad news indeed. I don't think Chang will fit in the park, If they did get a coaster from them it would probly be Grease Lightin' or we can get Deluge into the water park!

It is sad news about KK, but most of us have seen this coming for a long time. I honestly doubt Chang would be sent to FT, but don't forget Six Flags is king of parking lot coasters. Magic Mountain being a prime example of that. I would not be surprised if FT didn't get anything at all, but if we do, my money is on the waterpark. Just my two cents.

For what it is worth, RCDB lists Chang as relocated to Six Flags Great America (Gurnee, Illinois, USA) in 2010, in storage, and as yet unnamed.

Interesting enough, I ran across an article a few hours ago from the local Louisville news. It stated that the Kentucky Fair Board actually owns the rides in the park, and that Six Flags cannot take them. Looks like a storm may be brewing, I will see if I can find a link for you guys.

Yes. I do think our water park could use some spicing up

Here, via Screamscape, is a link to an article about this on the website of WHAS11.com, the local TV station:

Yes, we know...because it's being stored there. Just because it's being stored there doesn't mean it will be erected there.

I wouldn't get too excited about getting anything. Apparently Six Flags only has rights to the rides that are fully on their own land. In that case, they only have one roller coaster (T2), a shoot the chutes, go-carts, and one or two flat rides. Interesting to note, two major roller coasters overlapped property lines. Chang was one of them, Twisted Twins being the other. All of the other rides are owned by the Kentucky Fair Board according to the local news. So nothing to get too excited about, none of the actual waterpark slides are on Six Flags land. I was reading one article about it yesterday on the website of the Louisville Newspaper, apparently the Fair Board says Six Flags does not have full rights to Chang. I smell a lawsuit, but who knows, they may not want the trouble.

I personally don't expect too much to come out of Kentucky Kingdom either. I personally don't think they actually have anything worth putting in at SFFT.

Yeah, I would have to agree with that. I would rather something new and unique than another hand-me-down.

Heck yeh! A Tatsu style custom B&M Flyer off the canyon walls would be awesome. Who knows when and if B&M is bringing back the stand up coaster. They haven't made one in years which is a big shame. Riddler's Revenge at SFMM is freaking awesome!
